Changing the game settings

Tap the Settings button in the top right of the game. You can set the dark pieces or the light pieces so they are controlled by a human or your iPad, or have either or both sides play with a simple checkers automatic algorithm. Then tap the Done button and resume the current game or start a new game.

In American checkers, players are required to capture the opponent's piece or pieces if a capture is possible. However in Checkers XL, this requirement is optional. You can turn off the rule in the Settings screen.

Beginning players will likely find it helpful to know which pieces can legally move, so by default movable pieces glow and pulse slightly. Once a finger starts moving a piece, the legal destination squares pulse slightly. This pulsing can be turned off in the Settings screen.
